Strix varia 01

A Barred Owl from the North Carolina Zoo. I've always had trouble photographing this particular animal. He likes to stay up high in his room and between the distance and the lights all previous attempts to get him failed. With the new camera's zoom though, I got a shot I am very happy with. I am also going to start give a unique tidbit of information about the animal with each photo I upload.

Barred Owl 01: Did you know that the Barred Owl shares many parts of it's range with the smaller Spotted Owl? When they do share habitats, the Barred owl often out competes it's cousin. Recently though, there have been an alarming number of Spotted/Barred owl hybrids which go by either Sparred or Botted owls.
