Yet another photo of a Scarlet Ibis in the North Carolina zoo's birdhouse and aviary. This particular species is so striking and photogenic! I saw this particular bird about 35-40 feet away at least through an opening of a tree's leaves.
Did you know that a juvenile Scarlet Ibis is not born with the crimson red of it's parent's? They are born with a much darker plumage consisting of greys and browns. They grow into the red
coloration, and are the only red wading bird on the entire planet.
